FIAB 1 USE CASE: Dearman Transport Refrigeration Unit (TRU)

Company Overview

Dearman are a Croydon-based company developing zero-emission cold and power systems for transport and the built environment. Their product portfolio is based around the Dearman engine, a piston engine is driven by expansion of liquid nitrogen or liquid air to produce clean cold and power.

Market Opportunity

The introduction of cooling technologies in developing countries has the potential to significantly reduce food waste in transit to the market, reducing the cost for consumers and increasing farmer’s income. Two thirds of the world’s food wastage happens in Asia and Africa, where the “cold chain” from field to consumer is immature. The International Institute of Refrigeration has estimated that 200 million tonnes of perishable food each year could be saved if developing countries had a more mature cold chain.
